Beginning again

A poem on september leaves + secrets

the late afternoon sun
skips across leaves overhead
a breeze whips through
as leaves rattle and cling
to their summer home

this is not the sound
of newly green leaves
full of vibrant life
ready for their summer
of shade and sun

this is the sound of
brittle dying leaves
entering their last days
at home

do they know they’ll die?
do they know they’ll fall?

i think they do

they know the secret

be your full self
in this moment
and let go when it’s time

soon
it will be time
to begin

again
